Construction worker killed by minivan on Milton Main Street

MILTON, ONT. — A 55-year-old construction worker employed at a Main Street jobsite in Milton, Ont. was struck and killed when a minivan veered off the road around 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Halton Police reported a Honda minivan was travelling westbound on Main Street near Elizabeth Street when it crossed over the centre line and onto the south sidewalk, striking the worker who had been doing work in front of a residence.

The worker became trapped underneath the vehicle. Shortly after being freed, the worker was pronounced dead by EMS, said a release.

Halton Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was on the scene to investigate and the Ministry of Labour also sent inspectors.

The area of Main Street East between Bronte Street and Bell Street was closed for several hours for the investigation.

The driver of the mini-van remained on scene and co-operated with investigators.

Police did not immediately release the name of the victim or driver.
