Worker dies on Pickering construction site

TORONTO — A worker was pronounced dead after sustaining fatal injuries when a temporary wall fell at a construction site in Pickering Ont.

On Feb. 10 just after 1 p.m., Durham Regional Police tweeted that one person with vital signs absent and another with serious injuries was taken to hospital. The incident occurred at Amica Pickering, a senior living community under construction on Pickering Parkway.

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development was notified. Ministry inspectors were assigned.

Ministry inspectors attended the scene Feb. 11. They issued four requirements: two requirements were issued to the constructor, Rockport Construction Services Inc.; one requirement was issued to the employer, 1276713 Ontario Ltd.; and one requirement was issued to the secondary employer, Delgant (Civil) ltd.

“Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the workers at this project,” said Janet Deline, a spokesperson with the ministry, in an email to the Daily Commercial News.

The investigation is ongoing.
