HAMILTON — A large blaze destroyed two dozen homes under construction in the Rymal Road and Red Hill Creek Parkway region of south Hamilton Monday (July 11) afternoon.
Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe reported the four-alarm fire destroyed 23 homes under construction but was under control by early evening.
Crews were still putting out hotspots in the early evening. Cunliffe said there were no injuries to report and an investigation was being launched to determine the cause of the fire.
The chief said three arial units had been deployed and used master stream on high volume water. Crews were also deploying handlines.
“A lot of the units were still at studs construction so they hadn’t been closed in yet so they were open to the elements, and certainly as the wind starts to pick up when you start to have open flame like that, it moves very quickly and evolves very quickly in the units,” said Cunliffe.
