Underground worker found dead after flood at Mississauga jobsite

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — The body of a man has been recovered following a construction mishap in Mississauga on Friday (Dec. 2).

Peel Regional Police first reported flooding at a construction site in the Hurontario/ Burnhamthorpe area around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Reports stated emergency crews worked to extract multiple sewer and watermain workers after tunnels started to flood. All were removed safely except one male.

Crews worked into the evening to rescue the worker. His body was located after midnight. Reports said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ministry of Labour identified Technicore as the employer. Two orders were given – to not disturb the scene and for the company to provide documents and notices of procedure.
