Students can learn about municipal careers at Good Roads Conference

OAKVILLE, ONT.—A forum at the 2022 Good Roads Conference in February will allow young professionals entering their post-secondary career to network with professionals in the municipal sector in-person.

The Emerging Municipal Leaders Forum is focused on introducing municipal careers to those students who may have never considered a municipal workplace and allow them to speak to municipal experts directly.

“This forum is specifically designed for students as we have a cross-functional panel of municipal experts discuss the opportunities and benefits that exist in the local government field,” said Thomas Barakat, manager of public policy and government relations with Good Roads, in a statement.

“The wave of retirements currently hitting Ontario’s municipalities will continue for the next five to 10 years. In this time, over 50 per cent of municipal employees will be eligible for retirement and municipalities will need to continue to provide the essential services that are key to maintaining a high quality of life.”

The Emerging Municipal Leaders Forum will take place Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto as part of the Good Roads Conference. The tickets have been significantly discounted for students who can also attend the rest of the Good Roads conference with their student registration.
