EllisDon’s Bankers Court project in Calgary has received LEED Core and Shell Gold certification with the U.S. Green Building Council, making it the first LEED CS certified office tower in the city at any level, the company said.

Bankers Court, completed in July, is the most recent addition to the Bankers Hall complex, located in the heart of Calgary's business district.

EllisDon was the construction manager for the office tower.

The building achieved 38 LEED credits during the final review process, and Gold level certification was announced July 30.

EllisDon says it initially targeted a Silver level certification.

The design of the building incorporates many green features that helped it attain Gold certification, including a triple glazed curtain wall that wraps the whole structure and permits ample natural light.

The glazing also helps to reduce the environmental and economic impacts associated with excessive energy use, the company said.

In addition, the building has high efficiency chillers, condensing boilers and low flow plumbing fixtures.

EllisDon's partners on the project included Cohos Evamy who acted as the LEED Consultant, as well as consultants for mechanical (Emans Smith Anderson Engineering Ltd.), electrical(Mulvey+Banani) and commissioning (agent RSR Engineering Services Inc.)
