The Town of Aurora, Ontario awarded an $86,895 contract to Aquafor Beech Ltd. to provide consulting services for a stormwater management plan, aimed at maintaining water quality in the East Holland River subwatershed north of Toronto.
The Town of Aurora, Ontario awarded an $86,895 contract to Aquafor Beech Ltd. to provide consulting services for a stormwater management plan, aimed at maintaining water quality in the East Holland River subwatershed north of Toronto.
The Town Council approved the contract at its meeting March 27.
The town is working on a Comprehensive Stormwater Management Master Plan intended to provide direction on how to maintain and possibly improve water quality in the watershed.
Aquafor Beech is based west of Toronto in Mississauga, with branch offices in Kingston and Guelph. Services include watershed planning, environmental restoration, stormwater management, fluvial geomorphology, environmental assessment/permitting, water resources engineering and municipal infrastructure design.
“The Town is mandated to prepare the stormwater plan to comply with the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan and the Lake Simcoe Protection Act, 2008,” the town stated in a press release. “The Town of Aurora is one of seven municipalities located within the East Holland River Subwatershed. Stormwater runoff causes significant degradation of the East Holland River.”
