MISSISSAUGA, ONT.—Joint funding totalling $65 million from the provincial and federal governments has been announced for the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) – Dixie Road Interchange project.
The investment of up to $32.5 million each will support a complete reconfiguration of the Dixie Road Interchange on the QEW in Mississauga. The Dixie Road Bridge, the Etobicoke Creek Bridge and the Ogden Road pedestrian bridge over the QEW will be replaced.
The federal government selected this project for funding consideration under the New Building Canada Fund’s Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component-National and Regional Projects.
"The QEW – Dixie Road Interchange project is an important initiative which will help improve safety and traffic flow by easing congestion and providing faster and more reliable travel and commute times on one of Ontario’s busiest highways," said Lisa Raitt, federal minister of transport in a statement. She and Ontario Minster of Transportation Steven Del Duca, recently announced the funding in Mississauga.
According to a release, Ontario has 16,900 kilometres of highway and 2,800 bridges. The province is investing $2.5 billion in road and bridge construction projects this year, which is likely to create or sustain about 25,000 jobs.
