Aecon-Dragados continues work on the $5.3 billion Eglinton Crosstown just west of Leslie Street.

Aecon-Dragados was awarded the joint venture east-tunnels contract from Metrolinx in October 2013. This $177 million section of the Crosstown — which encompasses the construction of two parallel 6.5-metre diameter tunnels spanning 3.25 km — began in early 2014 and the final east tunnel contract ends in 2016. The two blue towers (centre) are cassettes that carry the additional muck conveyor-belt that is required, as the tunnel boring machines (TBM) go farther along into the tunnel. The scope of the project is significant — 19 km with more than 10 km underground. Once complete, it will mean a significant change to the way people travel across Eglinton and the region. The Crosstown is the largest transit infrastructure investment in Toronto’s history.
