Canadian Solar signs deal for Windsor power plant

MISSISSAUGA, ONT.—The Windsor Solar power project has taken another step forward with the announcement that Canadian Solar Solutions has signed a contract to provide solar panels for the venture.

Canadian Solar Solutions, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar of Mississauga, Ont., announced on Jan. 15 that it will supply 50-MW AC (60 MW DC) of MaxPower CS6X Ontario-made solar panels for the Windsor Solar facility, to be built on Windsor Airport lands. The utility-scale solar project is being developed by Samsung Renewable Energy and Connor, Clark and Lunn Infrastructure.

The power plant is expected to produce approximately 86,500 MWh of electricity per year, sufficient to power approximately 8,204 Canadian homes. Construction is expected in late 2016 or early 2017, according to the Canadian Solar media statement. During the construction phase, more than 100 workers will be on site.

Canadian Solar is one of the world’s largest solar power companies with participation in projects in over 70 countries around the world.
