OSHAWA, ONT.—A new $25-million, six-storey hotel that includes 125 guest rooms and suites has opened in downtown Oshawa, Ont. on Simcoe Street North.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites includes an indoor heated pool, 24-hour fitness facilities and underground parking, explains a release.
The convention centre that’s part of the facility will open later in 2016. A full-service restaurant is also planned for the building.
"We succeeded in delivering on our promise of bringing a brand hotel to Oshawa’s downtown," said Ali Rehman, vice-president Chayell Hospitality Group, in a statement.
"We still stand by the belief that there are numerous growth opportunities in this city and that is what kept us going throughout this endeavour. Bringing the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Oshawa Convention Centre to downtown Oshawa will help it realize its destination potential."
According to the release, the new development contributes to the revitalization of Oshawa’s downtown and is in keeping with Plan 20Twenty for Downtown Oshawa and the Oshawa Strategic Plan, Our Focus, Our Future.
"The opening of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites is an exciting addition to our already vibrant and alive downtown," said Councillor John Aker, who is chair of Oshawa’s Development Services Committee.
"I’m pleased to see that our downtown is a destination of choice for businesses, families and visitors."
