MONTREAL — CBC/Radio-Canada has announced that the Treasury Board of Canada has approved the new Maison de Radio-Canada (MRC) construction project led by Broccolini.
Broccolini will build the new Maison de Radio-Canada at the corner of Rene-Levesque Boulevard and Papineau Avenue. CBC/Radio-Canada will then become a tenant in the new facility under a 30-year lease, noted the media release issued earlier this month.
Groupe Mach will acquire and redevelop the existing Radio Canada facility and the western part of the lot. Redevelopment will begin after the public broadcaster has completed its move.
The site is located at the foot of Jacques-Cartier Bridge.
Other nearby projects include the CHUM superhospital currently under construction, the covering of the Ville-Marie expressway, improved waterfront access and new real estate developments.
The revitalization plan for the block occupied by Radio-Canada will provide for a mix of social and community housing, affordable housing and green spaces, says CBC/Radio Canada. The Groupe Mach proposal is also looking at reconnecting certain streets to promote greater integration with the rest of the neighbourhood.
Construction is expected to start late summer and the new Maison de Radio-Canada is expected to be completed by early 2020.
