SCARBOROUGH, ONT. — Construction is moving ahead at Highland Hall, the future home of the social sciences departments and the registrar’s office at the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus.
The $52-million building, located between the student centre and the new east arrival court that faces Military Trail from the campus, will be a new focal point for community access and engagement.
It will also create a new campus gateway from Military Trail, states the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus website.
The five-storey project will add faculty and administration space and create an addition featuring signature architecture for the campus while doubling the amount of space dedicated to students. It will also provide for flexible community access spaces, the website indicates.
The 134,216-square-foot building will house faculty and administrative offices, student services, lounges, event and study spaces, two state-of-the-art tiered classrooms, a technologically advanced Centre for Teaching and Learning for academic skills training, a Student Commons and a multi-use space that can accommodate up to 600 students during exam time.
Consultants on the project are Perkins & Will Architects. Environmental features include green roofs, visible from interior program areas, and an Eco Garden, which will identify the east-west pedestrian route from Military Trail, linking with other naturalized planting areas on campus.
