EllisDon named Brockville hospital project proponent

TORONTO — EllisDon Corporation has been selected as the preferred proponent to build and finance the Brockville General Hospital Phase 2 Redevelopment Project in Brockville, Ont.

The announcement was made by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Brockville General Hospital (BGH) Jan. 26.

EllisDon Corporation was selected following a request for proposals process that began in May 2017, states a release issued by IO.

The project will consolidate programs and services currently offered at the hospital’s Garden and Charles Street sites on a single campus at the Charles Street site and involves a combination of new construction and renovations. This includes a new 170,000-square-foot four-storey addition and approximately 20,000 square feet of renovations.

IO and BGH will now work to finalize contract details with EllisDon and the project is expected to reach financial close in March 2018, which will mean that relevant contracts have been signed and a financing rate has been set, adds the release. The contract cost will be announced publicly following financial close. Construction is expected to begin shortly after.

“Selecting a developer is an important step in redeveloping Brockville General Hospital,” said Eric Hoskins, minister of health and long-term care, in a statement. “This project will offer a wide range of services to meet the needs of this growing community, such as mental health and addiction, complex continuing care, palliative care and rehabilitation, and will make a real difference for patients in the Brockville area.”

The project is being delivered using IO’s Alternative Financing and Procurement model.
