EllisDon awarded Brockville General Hospital contract

BROCKVILLE, ONT. — EllisDon has been awarded a fixed-price contract to build and finance the Brockville General Hospital (BGH) Phase 2 Redevelopment project, which includes renovations to the hospital and a four-storey addition.

The contract, awarded by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and BGH, is valued at approximately $131.2 million, which reflects the substantial completion payment.

According to a release issued by IO, the project will consolidate programs and services currently offered at the hospital’s Garden and Charles Street sites to a single campus at the Charles Street site.

The project involves a combination of new construction and renovations, including a new four-storey addition plus a mechanical penthouse. The improvements will increase the hospital’s capacity by 22 beds.

EllisDon will now mobilize onsite and construction will begin, with an expected substantial completion date of summer 2020, the release indicates. At the peak of construction, it is expected 250 workers will be onsite, the majority of which will come from eastern Ontario.

The project will be delivered using IO’s Alternative Financing and Procurement model.
