Quebec to spend $20.5 million on Technopole Angus green projects
SOCIETE DE DEVELOPMENT ANGUS — Recent green infrastructure funding announced by the Province of Quebec for the Technopole Angus project in Montreal brings the total green funding envelope from governments to $40 million.

MONTREAL — The Quebec government has announced $20.5 million in funding for green infrastructure projects in the $250-million Technopole Angus green neighbourhood of Montreal.

The community is being redeveloped by the Societe de developpement Angus as an innovation hub that will include 360 residential units, 45,000 square metres of office space for over 1,500 new workers, 3,000 square metres of commercial space for some 20 new local businesses, an elementary school, two new public daycare centres and 550 underground parking spaces, said a recent media statement.

Eighty per cent of the housing will be social and affordable.

A contribution by the City of Montreal will bring the total green infrastructure funding allocation to almost $40 million.

Green infrastructure will include a runoff management system designed to store and filter 95 per cent of rainwater over the course of a year and reduce the consumption of drinkable water used in building facilities by 40 per cent.

There will also be an energy loop shared between all planned buildings that recovers and transfers energy between users of heating and cooling systems, reducing building energy consumption by 40 per cent and emitting 26 per cent less greenhouse gas than a conventional project without heat exchange.

There will also be environmentally friendly remediation of contaminated soils, the statement indicated.

The project, located in the borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, is halfway complete.

Awards earned by the plan include the Canadian Urban Institute’s 2015 Grand Prize and the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada’s 2016 National Urban Design Award.

The project is designed to achieve LEED-ND V4 Platinum certification.
