Winnipeg landscaper wins Manitoba sustainability award

WINNIPEG — Manitoba Sustainable Development has announced the winners of the Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards.

The awards were presented at a reception held recently at the Manitoba Legislature, a statement said.

Among the winners was ft3 Architecture Landscape Interior Design of Winnipeg, honoured as a Champion for Sustainability. The citation said the firm, which provides architectural, landscape and interior design services for projects primarily located in Manitoba, focusing on health and wellness, corporate office environments and multi-unit residential projects, “is committed to design that is socially and environmentally responsible.”

Other winners included Macintosh Balacano of Winnipeg, recognized as a Champion for Sustainability, Honourable Mention, for sustainability in the telecommunications industry; the Green Action Centre, Winnipeg, which earned Outstanding Achievement recognition for promoting greener living through environmental education and encouraging practical green solutions for homeowners, workplaces, schools and communities; and the Wayoata School Greening Project, Winnipeg, winner of the Education for Sustainability Honourable Mention award for its “overall vision of creating a comfortable, healthy and exciting outdoor environment for the students and general community,” transforming a “barren, 1.5-acre field into a learning environment with diverse habitats for plants, birds and insects,” the statement said.

The City of Daughin was given a Sustainable Community award for its decision making and numerous new sustainability initiatives.
