CDL Labs to build $70M cancer treatment centre

MONTREAL — CDL Laboratories has announced it is spending $70 million to build a new cancer treatment centre in Montreal.

CDL Proton Therapy will be the first proton therapy centre of excellence in Canada, said an Aug. 22 statement. The facility will be built on a central location on the island of Montreal, with preparatory work slated to begin before year end. Commissioning is expected within two years of the start of construction.

Proton therapy is an innovative radiotherapy modality for treating different types of cancer, using a focused proton beam to target tumours directly while sparing nearby healthy tissue.

CDL Proton Therapy’s integrated centre of excellence will collaborate with major university hospitals, and the project will be undertaken in partnership with the United Kingdom’s Proton Partners International.
