Hearings scheduled for Milton logistics project

MILTON, ONT. — The review panel for the proposed Milton Logistics Hub Project has announced the new phase of public hearings into the project.

Hearings will begin with a general session in Milton, Ont. on June 19. Members of the public, Indigenous groups, governments and other organizations are invited to participate, stated an April 16 release.

The Canadian National (CN) Railway Company is proposing the construction and operation of the logistics hub, designed to transfer containers between trucks and railcars. The project would be built on 400 acres of CN-owned land and would include a railway yard with more than 20 kilometres of track. The project is valued at $250 million, according to CN’s website.

A factsheet on the CN website said other potential components of the project include an administrative building, maintenance garage and areas for short-term container storage; realignment and extension of the existing mainline; a 1.7-kilometre truck entrance road off Britannia Road; an employee entrance off Tremaine Road; an underpass at Lower Base Line; a minimum five-metre-high berm/barrier; and a stormwater management system.

The public hearing is expected to take place over a one-month period. The release indicated the hearing will allow the review panel to gather and test the information it requires to complete its environmental assessment of the project and for the Canadian Transportation Agency to make a determination, if required, regarding CN’s application under Section 98 of the Canada Transportation Act.
