Buildings Week opens today

NRC energy research lab opens in Mississauga
Diamond Schmitt last week announced completion of the National Research Council’s new advanced materials research facility in Mississauga, Ont. Designed by Diamond Schmitt, the facility will serve as a national clean energy hub, supporting research of new materials for clean energy and other applications. The two-storey, 21,500-square-foot facility is designed with flexible laboratory and office spaces that are divisible by removable partition systems, with multiple layers of secure access.
EllisDon Forming lands London contract
EllisDon announced Nov. 26 its division EllisDon Forming Ltd. has been awarded the concrete and formwork work for two new towers located on the Old Victoria Hospital lands in London, Ont. The 620-unit development has a 60,000-square-floor plate in its five-level podium with 19- and 24-storey towers on top.
Copper Mountain proposes mine expansion
Copper Mountain Mining Corporation today announced a new life-of-mine plan for its Copper Mountain Mine, located in southern British Columbia, that includes expansion of the mill. The initial capital cost required to increase throughput to 65,000 tonnes per day is estimated to be $123 million, plus a $25–million contingency, for a total of $148 million. The plan includes the installation of the HPGR circuit, fourth ball mill, regrind circuit, verti-mill, additional rougher and cleaner flotation circuits and electrical system upgrades.
