LONGUEUIL, QUE. — The federal government has announced it is spending $64 million towards the construction of 170 affordable purpose-built rental units in Longueuil, Que.
The project is the first phase of Le Louis-Alexandre, a mixed multi-residential project in the city, stated a recent release. Funding is provided as repayable, low-interest loans through the government’s Apartment Construction Loan Program (ACLP). Through the program, the federal government is supporting the construction of 131,000 rental units by 2032.
“Investing in affordable housing isn’t about pouring money into concrete. It’s about investing in the well-being of Canadians like the future residents of the Louis-Alexandre project, here in Longueuil, who will have access to a safe and comfortable place to call home,” stated federal Minister of Transport Pablo Rodriguez in a statement.
