PICTON, ONT. — Major plans and partnerships are underway for a project in Prince Edward County coined Base31, which is comprised of a 750-acre neighbourhood plan.
PEC Community Partners Inc. recently announced that CaraCo Group of Companies, Fieldgate Homes and Paradise Developments have joined its ownership group on the development.
PEC Community Partners purchased the former historic Second World War air training base in Picton in December 2021 alongside 680-acres of greenspace surrounding the site, a release reads.
Since that time, the ownership group has embarked on the adaptive reuse of many of the heritage buildings, a transformation of the landscape and significant investment in placemaking, public art, programming, site activation and food and beverage.
Base31 is now anticipated to host more than 150 events and experiences this year alone.
In 2025, it will open a museum celebrating the site’s heritage and the role that it has played within the local community, the nation and globally.
The site will continue to be developed over the coming years, with a continued focus on culture and food.
PEC Community Partners has invested $50 million dollars in developing the site in the three years since it purchased the property, including $12 million for waterworks infrastructure.
Base31’s overarching neighbourhood plan features a mix of uses including retail, restaurants, places to work and create, parks, trails, and recreation areas, a full complement of community amenities, and a range of housing, the release continues. Over the 30-year term of the project, the site will serve as home to one of the nation’s largest revitalization projects.
