TORONTO — The Sionito Group of Charities has broken ground on its latest non-profit housing project at 591 Finch Ave. W. in North York.
The new development will feature 158 supportive housing units with construction being led by Prime Design Build Corporation.
For the owner, one of the most important aspects of the project is the focus on environmental sustainability. The design includes exterior wall panels that generate electricity and a rooftop outfitted with solar panels.
“If you haven’t noticed it, energy is the centre of modern economies. This building requires energy, and energy costs money. If we can efficiently conserve it for the next 100 years, we can lower rents into perpetuity, making housing affordable to individuals who only have government pensions.” said Bryce Taylor, director of Sionito Group of Charities, in a statement.
The non-profit organization is focused on addressing homelessness, mental health challenges and other critical social issues. By partnering with community organizations and leveraging innovative solutions, Sionito works to provide sustainable housing that enhances the quality of life for vulnerable individuals and families.
Prime Design Build Corporation is a construction firm specializing in residential, commercial and industrial projects.
