TORONTO — A new survey aims to capture the state of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other technologies within Canadian construction in order to provide implementation benchmarks nationwide.
AECO Innovation Lab has launched the Canadian Construction Technology Survey 2021 in collaboration with buildingSMART Canada and researchers from L’École de technologie supérieure Montréal, the University of British Columbia and University of Waterloo.
The survey features 48 questions that investigate the use of BIM and technology, commonly held beliefs, benefits and barriers of technology, the application and need of standards and resources as well as the future of technology in the industry.
According to a release, there’s a commonly held belief that Canadian architecture, engineering, construction, owners, operators and other stakeholders are lagging behind international counterparts when it comes to the adoption of new technologies and processes.
“Understanding the uptake and beliefs surrounding these technologies is critical for their adoption in Canada,” the release states. “Taking part in the survey will allow for a greater understanding of where the industry is today to help shape the future of the Canadian construction industry.”
