This week on the Construction Record podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with City of Vancouver director of special projects Matt Shillito about the newly approved Broadway Plan, a 30-year project that will transform one of Canada’s busiest corridors into denser residential and commercial area centred around expanded transit.
One of the key pillars of the Broadway Plan is to maintain and enhance housing affordability in the area particularly amongst existing and future rental stock. The plan draws on the opportunities presented by the Broadway Subway project, an extension westward of the existing Skytrain from Cambie St. to Arbutus St. The transit expansion will be complete by 2025 and construction related to the Broadway Plan will be coordinated to densely develop around completed transit stations.
