The Construction Record Podcast: Episode 84 – a new era for the Daily Commercial News, 3D printing and coming together for a good cause in Saskatchewan

This week your hosts for the Construction Record Podcast are Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commerce national managing editor Vince Versace and Journal of Commerce digital media editor Warren Frey. It’s an emotional day for the DCN as May 29 marks the last print edition of the paper, a change long in coming and foreshadowed by the full move to digital by the Journal of Commerce, but a big shift nonetheless into new and exciting ways to reach our readers, including this podcast.

Vince looks not only at the DCN’s future but the new ways the industry is talking both to and about itself, primarily through Instagram. It’s an exciting and friendly platform and we’ve started showcasing interesting stories in our own Awesome Eight feature looking at interesting events and news stories in a new way from across the industry.

Warren’s also worked on a couple of stories related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that show the ingenuity and resilience of people in the face of a global health crisis. He recently wrote a story about a B.C. couple who are using 3D printers to create PPE for hospitals and small businesses and he has another upcoming story about Saskatchewan construction associations working together to raise money for the province’s food banks in light of a surge in demand as COVID-19 affects the economy.
