VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) has announced it is reaching out to Lower Mainland municipalities, asking them to work together to safeguard construction projects from potential disruptions due to tariff threats from the Donald Trump administration.
According to a press release, municipalities can help maintain a competitive and fair procurement process while addressing economic uncertainties.
“VRCA invites municipalities to join in reviewing contract templates and exploring ways to incorporate financial protections that will foster a sustainable and thriving construction industry,” the release reads.
In particular, the VRCA aims to ensure contract provisions mitigate financial uncertainty;
maintain a fair and competitive bidding environment that attracts quality contractors and ensures transparency for owners; and share best practices to strengthen municipal projects.
“We are initiating these important conversations to collaboratively build stronger procurement processes that benefit both municipalities and the construction industry,” said Jeannine Martin, president of the VRCA, in a statement. “Collaborative contracts continue to be buzzwords around construction procurement options. This is a perfect opportunity to truly collaborate. We believe municipalities and industry can work hand in hand to navigate these challenges. By fostering strong partnerships, we can ensure that essential community projects move forward without unnecessary delays and impacts on the economy can be in some cases mitigated and in others at least predicted.”
