VANCOUVER, B.C. — A new pilot program by the City of Vancouver is offering funding to encourage owners of market rental buildings to pursue energy and climate change retrofits.
The Rental Apartment Retrofit Accelerator is being funded by the city in partnership with CleanBC and BCHydro, administered through LandlordBC. The pilot program has $3.5 million in grants available for applicants, according to a news release.
As previously reported by the Journal of Commerce, retrofitting existing building stock is one of the crucial ways the construction industry can address CO2 emissions.
Funds can be used towards critical energy retrofits such as building electrification and fuel-switching using new heat pump technology.
The pilot will inform the city’s future investment in existing rental stock while maintaining stable tenancies.
Applications are open until July 30.
