The body of a worker has been recovered from a site in North Vancouver after a collapse during construction work.
Sgt. Peter DeVries, a North Vancouver RCMP media relations officer, confirmed that the person who died was working at the demolition site. Another person was injured in the incident and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries but DeVries could not confirm if they were part of the project team or what exact work was being done during the collapse.
“A specialized team made sure the scene was safe before people were able to recover the body,” said DeVries. “The coroner was able to pronounce the person deceased and make those next steps.”
DeVries added that the RCMP’s serious crimes section will be conducting an investigation to determine criminality. If there is no criminality, the coroner will investigate the mechanism of death and WorkSafeBC will investigate the incident.
The incident occurred on Aug. 25. Officers were called to the Lower Lonsdale area at 9:45 a.m., after reports of a collapse at a construction site.
