The Nahwitti Windfarm Project north of Port Hardy, a $280 million initiative by Nomis Power Corporation, has undergone a successful review from the British Columbia Environmental Office.
The Nahwitti Windfarm Project north of Port Hardy, a $280 million initiative by Nomis Power Corporation, has undergone a successful review from the British Columbia Environmental Office.
Nomis plans to erect 50 wind turbine towers which will generate up to 100 megawatts of power.
Though the project was given environmental approval, several conditions are included with the approval, such as an erosion control plan and making sure compensation is in place for destruction of fish habitats.
Along with the turbine farm, the project will also include new access roads as well as upgrades to existing roads, bridges and transmission lines.
The project must still secure approval from the British Columbia government as well as come to an electricity purchase agreement with BC Hydro.
