Sponsored Content: Technology Forward Delnor Construction Relies on Viewpoint for Complex ATB Financial Consolidation Project

Substantial renovations of ATB Place required consistent and thorough project management and tight tracking of all costs and budget. The use of Vista by Viewpoint played a critical role in the success of the project.

ATB Place (formerly Telus Plaza), a part of the ATB Financial Consolidation Project underwent substantial renovations with an aggressive timeline.

More than 240,000 square feet were gutted and renovated to accommodate the 1,300 staff members working in the new corporate office.

The 11 floors of shared workspace incorporated innovative elements, creating an environment that was functional, efficient and aesthetically pleasing.

Delnor’s team worked collaboratively with Stantec Architecture Ltd. and the ATB facilities staff to achieve and deliver the ultimate vision.

With a comprehensive understanding of ATB’s goals, Delnor was able to suggest construction methods to help shape the design and engineering of the project.

The opportunity to be a part of the development plans during the initial stages of the project also allowed Delnor to understand schedule requirements and to be proactive in orchestrating complex construction details. Delnor placed a full-time Vista project management team onsite to ensure quick responses were made to ATB’s requests. Strategic sequencing of trade scopes were necessary in order to minimize the disruption of traffic flow in and out of the tower.

Delnor mitigated the risk of schedule slippage by splitting up the reconstruction of all floors into individual projects. Instead of the same sub-contractor working on one floor at a time, contractors were divided up amongst the 11 floors to help avoid the possibility of one team falling behind schedule.

This strategy worked and each floor was turned over on schedule with the construction completed under budget. The Delnor team was applauded for making all the divided components of the project happen successfully.

Delnor has completed three Capital Projects for ATB Financial in the last few years — two in Calgary, and one in downtown Edmonton. Delnor was awarded Contractor of the Year in Alberta, 2015, and this project was key in that nomination.
