Prominent Prairie designs honoured with awards for excellence
PHOTO COURTESY KASIAN ARCHITECTURE INTERIOR DESIGN AND PLANNING AND ALLIED WORKS ARCHITECTURE — The National Music Centre in Calgary, Alta. won an Award of Excellence in the Prairie Design Awards presented recently. Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd. and Allied Works Architecture designed the building and CANA was the contractor.

CALGARY, ALTA. — Across the Prairies, various community hubs, structures and unique buildings were recognized as winners of the 2022 Prairie Design Awards, announced by the Alberta Association of Architects, the Saskatchewan Association of Architects and the Manitoba Association of Architects.

The tri-provincial collaboration has been recognizing design excellence since its inauguration in 2000. 

Three winners in the Recent Work category received an Award of Excellence:

  • Capilano Library in Edmonton. The project owner is the City of Edmonton and the architect is Group2 Architecture Interior Design (prime consultant) in partnership with Patkau Architects.
  • National Music Centre in Calgary, Alta. The owner is the National Music Centre and the architect is Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd.
  • Quamajuq – Inuit Art Centre in Winnipeg. The owner is Winnipeg Art Gallery and the architect is Cibinel Architecture Ltd. with Maltzan Architecture, Inc.
RRC Polytech Manitou a bi Bii daziigae in Winnipeg was one of the winners of the 2022 Prairie Design Awards. The architect is Number TEN Architectural Group + Diamond Schmitt Architects Incorporated, Architects in Joint Venture and the owner is Red River College Polytechnic.
NUMBER TEN ARCHITECTURAL GROUP AND DIAMOND SCHMITT ARCHITECTS — RRC Polytech Manitou a bi Bii daziigae in Winnipeg was one of the winners of the 2022 Prairie Design Awards. The architect is Number TEN Architectural Group + Diamond Schmitt Architects Incorporated, Architects in Joint Venture and the owner is Red River College Polytechnic.

 

Other winners in the Recent Work category included:

  • 62M in Winnipeg. The owner/client is Green Seed Development Corporation + Ranjjan Development Corporation and the architect is 5468796 Architecture Inc.
  • Grow in Calgary, Alta. The owner/client is Andrei Metelitsa and the architect is Modern Office of Design + Architecture.
  • Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage in Edmonton. The owner is the City of Edmonton and the architect isgh3*.
  • Parkade of the Future in Calgary, Alta. The owner is Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and Calgary Parking Authority and the architect is 5468796 Architecture and Kasian Architecture, Interior Design and Planning.
  • RRC Polytech Manitou a bi Bii daziigae in Winnipeg. The owner is Red River College Polytechnic and the architect is Number TEN Architectural Group + Diamond Schmitt Architects Incorporated, Architects in Joint Venture.
  • Windsor Park Library in Winnipeg. The owner is the City of Winnipeg and the architect is David Penner Architect + h5 architecture.

Winners in the Interior Design Category included:

  • ATTAbotics HQ in Calgary, Alta. The owner is ATTAbotics and the interior designer is MODA.
  • Snider Orthotic Design in Winnipeg. The owner/client is Luke Snider and the architect is 1×1 architecture inc.
  • 5th SW Underpass Enhancement in Calgary, Alta. The owner is the City of Calgary and the landscape architect is DIALOG Alberta Architecture Engineering Interior Design Planning Inc.
  • Manitoboggan in Winnipeg. The owner/client is the City of Winnipeg and the landscape architect is Public City Architecture Inc.
  • Paul Kane Park Redevelopment in Edmonton. The owner is the City of Edmonton and the architect is GEC Architecture.

The winners in the Small Project category were:

  • Co*Lab in Edmonton. The owner is the City of Edmonton and the architect isRockliff Pierzchajlo Kroman Architects Ltd.
  • Forest Pavilion in Winnipeg. The owner is the City of Winnipeg and the architect is Public City Architecture Inc.
  • Rainbow Butterfly in Winnipeg. The owner is Collective of Voices and Manitoba Moon Voices and the architect is Brook McIlroy Inc.
