EDMONTON – The Henry Marshall Tory Building atrium at the University of Alberta’s Edmonton campus closed on July 22 to complete renovation work and modernize the atrium.
The construction work affects access to the Henry Marshall Tory Building and the Alberta School of Business Building as the atrium serves as a covered area between the two buildings.
Renovation work in the atrium includes replacement of skylight windows as well as upgrades to the interior finishes.
Classroom renovations in the Henry Marshall Tory Building itself involved upgrading three classrooms including levelling tiers to improve accessibility, installing new lighting and updating furniture. Approximately 20 additional seats will also be added across the three classrooms to increase capacity.
Mechanical upgrades to the building continue and have been ongoing since 2020. The tower perimeter induction units were upgraded followed by the installation of ceilings, chilled beams, radiation panels and new lights on levels; basement, level 1 and level 2, which was completed in September 2023.
Mechanical upgrade work will continue on level 3 with new T-Bar ceilings including upgraded lighting, chilled beams and radiant panels as well as new flooring in the corridors and select rooms, the U of A’s website said.
The atrium is expected to reopen in early 2025.
