Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital topping off marks milestone

VAUGHAN, ONT. — The Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital project in Vaughan, Ont., recently reached the highest point in its construction.

The project team, comprised of Plenary Group, PCL Construction, Stantec and Johnson Controls, is working with Mackenzie Health and Infrastructure Ontario to deliver the new hospital project. Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be the first new hospital to be built in York Region in more than 30 years and the first-ever hospital in the City of Vaughan.

The 1.2-million-square-foot hospital is scheduled to open in late 2020 and will feature integrated smart technology systems and medical devices — a national first for any community hospital.

According to a release issued by Mackenzie Health, smart technologies will support health care professionals in co-ordinating care around the needs of patients and families, including real-time tracking of patient locations for faster emergency response. The hospital will also feature modern surgical services and operating rooms, advanced medical imaging and speciality care including mental health, integrated stroke programs, pediatrics and more.

Thousands of tokens signed by members of York Region’s community — including donors, hospital staff, physicians, leadership and government — were poured into one of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital’s final concrete slabs. The signed tokens represent a shared commitment to building a healthier future for Ontario’s patients and families, the release states.
