Upcoming Winnipeg forum focuses on changing world of work

WINNIPEG — The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety is hosting Forum 2019: The Changing World of Work in Winnipeg from March 5 to March 6.

The conference will focus not only on health but also the changing face of the work world from new technology to shifting attitudes in the workplace.

The keynote for the conference is futurist Mikolas Badminton, whose 2030 – Brave New World session will look at the effects of technology and artificial intelligence over the next five, 10 and 15 years.

Other sessions include examining ways to maintain a multicultural workplace and a radio operator for Hibernia who will discuss how to maintain a mentally healthy workplace.

Sessions will also be held on the key components and concepts behind ISO 45001, the health risks and best practices surrounding nanotechnology, climate change and a case study from Unifor Local 333BC president Ben Williams and BC Transit vice-president of operations and COO Brian Anderson on how labour and employer came together to implement a recovery at work program.

There will also be a focus on work outcomes for disabled workers as well as those with non-visible disabilities. Nokiiwin Tribal Council executive director Audrey Gilbeau will lead a session on how to create a respectful community.
