TORONTO — Transport Futures has announced it’s hosting a transportation Equity Summit on Dec. 9 in Toronto.
A release stated the event will discuss who are the winners and losers in today’s mobility context; what demographic, geographic, design, environmental, safety, legal and fiscal “equity lenses” should be applied when planning infrastructure and services for drivers, transit riders, cyclists, pedestrians, ridehailers and micromobility users; and whether a new evaluation framework will enable government and business to provide the infrastructure and services that help everyone reach their full potential and contribute to society.
The event will feature speakers and moderated panel discussions. Among the speakers confirmed so far are Jennifer Dean, assistant professor of planning, University of Waterloo; Steven Farber, assistant professor of geography, University of Toronto; Gregory Shill, associate professor of law, University of Iowa; Shagithya Deivendran, project lead for automated vehicles, City of Toronto; David King, assistant professor of urban planning, Arizona State University; and Daniel Firth, principal consultant, WSP Canada.
“Despite significant investments in transit, rail and road infrastructure, governments are falling behind in their quest to ensure equitable access to the greatest number of people. This has resulted in automotive and technology firms moving aggressively into the mobility space,” said Transport Futures founder Martin Collier in the release.
The summit will be held at Innis Town Hall on the University of Toronto’s downtown campus.
