Gilgan promoted to officer within Order of Canada
Canada’s Governor General Julie Payette announced yesterday that Mattamy Homes founder and CEO Peter Gilgan has been promoted within the Order of Canada to the status of officer. Gilgan, of Toronto, was cited for his “exceptional commitment to health care, the well-being of children and community building, as one of Canada’s leading philanthropists.” Gilgan was one of 61 appointments announced. Mattamy recently announced its 100,000th new–home closing.

Wajax announces acquisition of Tundra
Mississauga-based Wajax Corporation yesterday announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Calgary-based Tundra Process Solutions for total consideration of $99.1 million. Tundra provides maintenance and technical services to customers in the western Canadian midstream oil and gas, mining, forestry and municipal sectors. Wajax operates a distribution system providing sales, parts and services to customers in diverse sectors of the Canadian economy, including construction, forestry, mining and others.
U.S. November new-home sales up over last year
The U.S.-based Madison’s Lumber Reporter reported yesterday that sales of new single-family houses in November 2020 in the U.S. were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 841,000, based on estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 11 per cent below the revised October rate of 945,000 but is 21 per cent above the November 2019 estimate of 696,000.
