May 10: construction eligibility for vaccines begins this week
The Government of Ontario has designated the week of May 10 as the first week of COVID-19 vaccine eligibility for construction workers, as part of its hierarchy for vaccines for essential workers. Workers are encouraged to register for vaccines online for inoculation at mass, hospital or mobile clinics or primary care settings such as their doctor’s office.
Teachers invest in Brazil transmissions
The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board today announced it has entered into an agreement with TPG, a global alternative asset firm, to acquire a 100–per–cent interest in Evoltz Participaçoes S.A., an electricity transmission platform in Brazil. Evoltz consists of seven electricity transmission lines that total more than 3,500 kilometres across 10 states in Brazil. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021.
Funds support recreational, social infrastructure in P.E.I.
The federal and provincial governments this morning announced spending on active transportation and social infrastructure for the Abegweit First Nation community of Prince Edward Island. One project includes the construction of several structures to create access to a waterfront and multi-use trail system, and additional funding will also support the preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development of the Epekwitk Mena’taqug Centre set for construction this year in Scotchfort.
U.S construction employment stalled in April
The Associated General Contractors of America released U.S. employment data Friday showing construction employment was unchanged from March to April as nonresidential contractors and homebuilders struggled to obtain materials and find enough workers. Association officials said the industry’s recovery was being hampered by problems getting stable prices and reliable deliveries of key materials, while the pandemic and federal policies were making it harder for firms to find workers to hire.
