McNaughton visits LIUNA training centre
Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton will make an announcement about funding for skills training today at the LIUNA Local 506 Training Centre in Richmond Hill. The event will be livestreamed at the Ontario At Work Facebook page beginning at 10 a.m.
Alltrade to mark 10 years in business
Alltrade Industrial Inc., part of the Barton Malow family of companies, will mark its 10-year anniversary with a celebration at its head office in Cambridge, Ont. on Oct. 1. Alltrade is active in the energy, transit, industrial and utility markets. Company founder and president Bob Ritzmann commented, “It was always about building people up, delivering excellent work to our clients and giving back to the community.” The private event will feature addresses by Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry, MP Brian May, Cambridge Chamber of Commerce CEO Greg Durocher, and other government and industry guests.
Mirmil Products receives funding for expansion
The Ontario government announced yesterday it is allocating $2.6 million to Mirmil Products Limited of Cambellford, Ont. through the Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program to help the firm relocate, expand operations, invest in new technology and recruit more than 30 skilled workers. The company produces and installs trim and decorative wood panelling for clients in diverse sectors including multi-residential construction.
Self-generated solar power poised for takeoff: report
A new report by research firm BloombergNEF and Schneider Electric finds that customer-sited solar installations could see 167 million households and 23 million businesses worldwide hosting their own power generation infrastructure by 2050. The report, Realizing the Potential of Customer-Sited Solar, finds rapidly falling costs of solar technology have already made it economical for homes and businesses to generate their own power in some markets. The market has the potential to exceed 2,000 gigawatts of solar and 1,000 gigawatt-hours of energy storage by 2050, says the report.
