Ground broken on long-term care building in Athens

ATHENS, ONT. — Construction has begun on a new building for Maple View Lodge, a long-term care home in Athens, Ont., which will add 132 new beds to the existing 60 beds and include design improvements such as semi-private and private rooms, larger resident common areas and air conditioning throughout the home.

The project is part of the Government of Ontario’s $6.4 billion plan to build more than 30,000 net new beds by 2028 and 28,000 upgraded long-term care beds across the province.

Maple View Lodge will continue to be operated by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and is expected to welcome its first residents in early 2025.

The new building will offer specialized health care, behavioural support and palliative care services, which helps integrate the long-term care home into the broader health care system, indicates a release.
