$8 million renovation preserves affordable housing in Surrey

SURREY, B.C. — Jennings Place, a 30-year-old affordable housing complex in Surrey, has had its life extended after receiving substantial upgrades from the province.

B.C. contributed $7.9 million towards upgrading Jennings Place, which contains more than 50 affordable homes in 15 townhouses.

“With provincial support, we’ve preserved 52 homes as quality, affordable housing for people with a range of incomes,” said Rachna Singh, MLA for Surrey-Green Timbers, in a statement.

The project upgraded and replaced water pipes, windows, flooring, exterior and interior LED light fixtures, garage doors, kitchen and bathroom cabinets and added new paint in each townhouse.

“We are so grateful for the partnership with the Province of B.C., through BC Housing, and the resulting improvements for our tenants at Jennings Place,” said Stephen Bennett, CEO of Affordable Housing Societies (AHS), which operates Jennings Place.

AHS moved tenants into vacant units on the property during the two-year renovation. Jennings Place was built in 1989.
