CALGARY, ALTA. – Procore announced Aug. 26 it is donating to the Calgary Construction Association’s education fund to support two initiatives aimed at early trades education.

The CCA has partnered with not-for-profit organization Honour The Work to deliver a curriculum intended for 850 classrooms across the Calgary Catholic School District and the Calgary Board of Education featuring STEAMS (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics and Skills) Kits, designed for students in grades one to six, a Procore release said.

The kits offer activities such as lesson plans, digital resources, building materials and diverse children’s books that highlight the value of skilled trades.

“The labour shortage is the challenge of our times, and we believe it’s our responsibility to lead the charge in addressing this issue. By introducing students to the skilled trades early on, we are not only helping to secure the future of our industry but also providing young people with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in these rewarding careers,” CCA president Bill Black said.

The association is also partnering with the TELUS Spark Science Centre to create a series of exploration spaces called BLUprint, which the release said is one of the first youth programs to showcase the application of STEAM in real-world trades careers in a Canadian science centre.

“To address the skilled labour shortage challenge, we must advocate for the industry and support education in construction across the country, from elementary school to post-secondary education. We’re excited to be a part of Calgary Construction Association’s efforts as they inspire the next generation to consider careers in this vital sector,” Procore Canada regional sales director Nolan Frazier said.

Procore.org also launched an Educators’ Training Centre this year for instructors with educational resources such as presentations, student exercises, sample project data and a video certification course for Canadian students, the release said.
