As he enters the second year of his term as president of the Hamilton-Halton Construction Association (HHCA), mechanical contractor Domenic Mattina is intent on maintaining a steady course.
“I plan to continue what we started almost one year ago — to review and measure the accomplishments of our strategic plan and continue to work towards achieving the desired goals and secondly, to continue to broaden and strengthen our relationships within our industry.”
Mattina, vice-president of sales and engineering at Mattina Mechanical Ltd., says the HHCA has made “great strides” in supporting the Council of Ontario Construction Associations “in a year of transformation and some great accomplishments.”
Last summer, a number of COCA members collaborated on development of a proposal to realign the organization’s governance structure.
In September, the COCA board agreed to merge the former policy and priorities committee into the executive committee “to bring oversight for planning, budgeting and administration together with responsibility for policy development and advocacy on a one-year trial basis.
“With only a few months’ experience, this new governance arrangement appears to be very effective and an improvement over the former structure,” said Mattina, currently COCA’s first vice-chair.
HHCA represents 390 companies engaged in the industrial, commercial and institutional construction sectors in Hamilton and Halton.
