VANTAGE GROUP — TradePort International is bringing Porter onboard as a John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport partner. Initial airport enhancements will include an updated exterior frontage with new and expanded canopies to improve curb operations, and a refresh of terminal interiors.

TradePort International is bringing Canada’s third-largest airline, Porter, onboard as a John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (HIA) partner.

TradePort, whose parent company Vantage Group, has managed HIA since 1996, signed a $400-million deal with the City of Hamilton last fall to upgrade and expand passenger and cargo transportation over the next 49 years.

“We are delighted to welcome Porter Airlines to Hamilton International as a strategic airline partner, as we invest in the success of our airport today and well into the future,” said Cole Horncastle, executive managing director, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. “Porter’s elevated economy service, on-board experience and air service connecting passengers to and from key destinations across Canada are a perfect fit.”

Initial airport enhancements will include an updated exterior frontage with new and expanded canopies to improve curb operations, and a refresh of terminal interiors from check-in counters and passenger screening areas to gate seating and baggage claim.

The integration of architectural elements and finishes inspired by the region’s natural geography will lend a unique touch, explains the developer, while new digital signs and lighting upgrades are also included.

Future enhancements will also include passenger jet bridges to connect the terminal directly to aircraft — a first for the HIA — and terminal infrastructure upgrades to position the airport for future expansion to accommodate expected air traffic growth.

According to YHM authorities, construction will begin in February, with many elements completed prior to the start of Porter Airlines service. Stantec and PCL are serving as architect and construction leads on the work.

Porter will initiate service at Hamilton International beginning in early June 2025, introducing daily service from Hamilton to four popular domestic destinations: Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax and Vancouver.

“The Porter experience is something that travellers in Hamilton have never seen before,” said Michael Deluce, CEO, Porter Airlines.

“We see significant opportunity in this market to expand our network across North America and believe that the community can support these initial flights — which will position us to consider offering additional service from Hamilton.”

YHM is Canada’s third-largest cargo airport that facilitated 156,000 tonnes of freight in 2021. Over the past several years, airlines Flair, Play and Swoop have come and gone as HIA partners.

Currently, the only passenger flights available are a small amount from Play, Sunwing and WestJet.

TradePort International Corporation is a global leader in airport and transportation investment, development, management and advisory services. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vantage Group.
