Plan includes verifying, registering and selling carbon credits
Edmonton-based design firm Stantec has entered into a deal with EcoSecurities to provide clients with greenhouse gas-management services, including verifying, registering and selling carbon credits.
EcoSecurities is a leading company in the growing field of sourcing, developing and trading carbon credits throughout the world.
“The choice to work with EcoSecurities is firmly in line with Stantec’s commitment to social, environmental and financial sustainability,” said Rich Allen, Boston-based leader of Stantec’s U.S. East region.
Carbon offsets are generated as the result of a greenhouse gas emission-reduction project delivering measurable reductions in emissions through a variety of technologies, including renewable energy, landfill gas capture and biomass energy.
The projects reduce emissions by displacing more fossil-fuel-intensive activities or by reducing the direct release of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. EcoSecurities helps companies to qualify their reductions as well as helping arrange buying or selling carbon credits.
“This elationship with EcoSecurities will allow us participate in the development of projects that generate carbon offset credits, with the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions” Allen said.
Stantec senior vice-president Jeff Kishel who works out of the company’s Denver office said Stantec is one of North America’s leading sustainable design firms “with a portfolio of hundreds of sustainable projects.
“We are applying sustainable practices in all aspects of our business,” he said.
Stantec provides professional design and consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, surveying, economics, and project management. It operates out of more than 100 locations
