Recognition for those that help create better product

The Greater Toronto Home Builders’ Association (GTHBA) recently presented the organization’s first ever Associate Awards.

The awards recognize the suppliers, trades, or professionals that have worked with builders or renovators to create a better product.

In the fall, builders and renovators were invited to nominate their top three choices for supplier of the year, subcontractor of the year and professional of the year.

Firms that exceeded the minimum number of nominations to qualify were then evaluated by their builder or renovator clients.

More than 60 different companies were nominated in the three categories:

Service Professional Category: Winner — Robins Appleby & Taub. Other finalists — The Communications Group; Decorenza; and New Homes & Condos for Sale.

Subcontractor of the Year: Winner — Dearie Contracting. Runner-up — Dominion Roofing.

Manufacturer/Supplier of the Year: Winner — Hanson Brick. Other finalists — Appliance Canada; Lennox Industries (Canada); Newmar Window Manufacturing; and Olympia Tile International.

GTHBA president Mark Parsons said in a statement that the awards were developed by an Associates Council to recognize the suppliers, trades, or professionals that “you can always count on to go the extra mile, to help you make a critical deadline or to take a problem off your hands or bail you out of a mess.

“As homebuilders or renovators, we know that our ability to meet the expectations of our homebuyers or homeowners is completely dependent upon our successful collaboration with our suppliers, subcontractors and consultants.

“When we work well together, the whole is always greater than the sum of the parts. Of course there are always some firms that excel at quality, service, professionalism and providing value-added benefits to the builder.”

Most importantly, Parsons said, the awards recognize those companies that work with the builder or renovator to create a better product and help the industry grow by contributing to the satisfaction of its customers.

The GTHBA is made up of more than 900 member companies including homebuilders, renovators, manufacturers and suppliers, subcontractors, service, professional and financial firms.

The association was established in 1921 and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1996.
