TACT Architecture Inc. won the 2012 best emerging practice award from the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA). The firm was founded by architects Prishram Jain and Michael Krus.
Early in their careers, architects Prishram Jain and Michael Krus recognized the fundamental importance of striking a balance between achieving design excellence and cost efficiencies on behalf of clients.
“Good clients want both,” says Jain, a graduate of the Cornell School of Architecture and a principal in the award-winning firm of TACT, a collective of architecture, interior design and development consulting practices.
With an eye to generating architecturally distinctive and cost-conscious designs, Jain and Krus set up TACT in 2007 after earning their stripes at architectural firms in Toronto and New York City. Together, the partners have more than 40 years’ experience in design and development.

TACT Architecture Inc. won the 2012 best emerging practice award from the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA). The firm also received a 2012 design excellence award for a residence in the village of Nobel, near Parry Sound.
“Recognition by your peers and/or your professional organization (OAA) is always humbling,” says Jain, who first met Krus in the mid 1990s while working at an architectural firm in downtown Toronto.
At TACT, Jain manages the architectural side of the business. Prior to hanging a shingle, Jain served as a senior design associate at a Toronto architectural firm, spearheading some award-winning projects, and as a senior development coordinator for a development company.
Krus, who has a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan and whose resume includes stints as an architect at major firms in both New York City and Toronto, manages the interior design division.
“For many projects, we are retained to provide both architectural and interior design services,” says Jain. “This ensures continuity in the design process.”
While in-house architectural and interior design services are often offered by design firms, TACT also has a development consulting arm.
“While many of our clients are among Toronto’s largest developers, others are first-timers who want to unlock the development potential with land assets they already own or have access to,” says Jain.
“For these clients, the design, approvals and marketing process can be unfamiliar territory. We strive to make the process as linear as possible and assist to manage the process for these clients.” The firm’s two awards will be officially presented during the OAA’s upcoming annual conference in Ottawa in May.
