Chicoutimi, Quebec engineering consulting firm Cegertec announced Wednesday it has entered a joint venture with WorleyParsons Ltd. of Sydney, Australia. They plan to handle large construction projects under Plan Nord in Quebec, including energy, mines and metals, transportation, infrastructure and buildings.

“The new joint venture is poised to be a top player in handling large projects in Quebec, notably under the Plan Nord, and in their traditional sectors: energy, industry (mines and metals), transportation, infrastructure and buildings,” the firms stated in a press release. “In addition, with a dynamic new partner, this joint venture will create a key capability center in Quebec in mining and metals, and particularly in aluminium.”
The new joint venture company will be called Cergertec WorleyParsons. It employs 525 in nine offices in Quebec. Its president is Stephane Leduc, who is currently vice-president and general manager of Cegertec.
WorleyParsons, which has 38,700 employees in 148 offices in 44 countries, provides engineering services to firms in the resource and energy sectors as well as complex process industries. According to its 2011 annual report, contracts include an engineer, procure and construct project for Syncrude Canada’s Aurora Mine and the Christina Lake steam assisted gravity drainage project with MEG Energy.
“On the international scene, Cegertec teams will put their talent and expertise to work alongside WorleyParsons' teams on major projects internationally, notably in French Africa,” Cegertec stated.
