Antigonish MLA Maurice Smith becomes Nova Scotia transportation and infrastructure renewal minister

Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter has appointed Maurice Smith to the position Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. Smith represents the riding of Antigonish in the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly.

Nova Scotia has a new Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. Premier Darrell Dexter appointed Maurice Smith to the position Wednesday, when he announced a cabinet shuffle.

In addition to his appointment as Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Smith will also be the new Minister of Gaelic Affairs and the Minister responsible for the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency, the Sydney Steel Corporation Act, the Insurance Act and the Nova Scotia Police Review Board.

Smith, who represents the riding of Antigonish in the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly, will sit on the Policy and Priorities Committee.

According to the NDP party's website, Smith was a lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid and Senior Counsel and managing lawyer in the Antigonish/Port Hawkesbury office.
