Grimsby native Tyler Green, newly elected president of the Niagara Construction Association (NCA), says association members stand to reap benefits from a number of large-scale projects planned in the region over the next couple of years.

Grimsby native Tyler Green, newly elected president of the Niagara Construction Association (NCA), says association members stand to reap benefits from a number of large-scale projects planned in the region over the next couple of years.

“Although the scale of this work limits the involvement of a majority of our members, the spinoff work will definitely benefit our membership,” says Green, ICI construction manager at Niagara Falls-headquartered foundation contractor Cotton Inc.

“This is key to local construction firms’ workloads.”

Green, who succeeds Arie Schipper of Merit Contractors Niagara at the helm of the association, became active in NCA about eight years ago at the request of then president Emilio Raimondo. Green since has served on the association’s public relations committee.

“My priorities (as president) stem from my work in public relations,” he said.

“I feel we need to improve the value to our membership through better representation with local stakeholders and decision-makers.

“We want to be the voice of our members and represent their best interests within the region.”

Green, who decided at an early age “that building was a passion,” graduated in 1997 from the construction engineering technology-architecture program at Niagara College in Welland.

He chose the program for “its high standards of excellence in the industry and challenging curriculum.”

At Cotton, Green manages the commercial/industrial department of the firm, which also undertakes a considerable amount of residential construction. On a day-to-day basis, he is involved with bidding and project co-ordination.

Cotton has served the Niagara region since 1979.

The Niagara Construction Association represents about 320 firms. Members include general and trade contractors, suppliers, architects, engineers and other professionals affiliated with the industry.

The NCA is headquartered in St. Catharines.
